School Admissions - Primary (First) School Places
There are over 3000 children who are starting Primary (First) school in Northumberland each year.
If the number of places at each school in Northumberland were unlimited, then every child would be able to attend their preferred primary (first) school, but unfortunately this is not the case. The number of children each school can accept is limited, and the Council cannot guarantee that a place will be available at your preferred school.
The Government has introduced class size legislation for Reception, Y1 or Y2 children. Children of infant age should not be taught in a class of over 30 pupils for a normal teaching session.
If you cannot be allocated a place at your preferred school, consideration will be given to your named alternative on your application.
